Magical Tidbits…

  • Favorite Disney Memory Growing up, my family, including my grandparents, went to Walt Disney World for a week every summer. I have such vivid memories of my Mema and Pop sitting on top of the train station on Main Street, saving us seats for the afternoon parade. I can still see them sitting there. Fast forward 30-ish years later, my now husband was planning to propose on Main Street in front of the castle. It was pouring down rain, and we were running late for our Space Mountain FastPass+ time. When we got to the Magic Kingdom, my now husband tells me that we were meeting my parents on top of the train station. When I got to the top of the stairs, I realized that both of our families were there, and that is when he got down on one knee and proposed. He didn’t know it at the time, but for me, getting engaged on top of the train station was way more special than Main Street in front of the castle.

  • Must Do If you enjoy running or maybe even an occasional fun run, a RunDisney race is a must-do! Running through an empty park is like no other. There are also places to stop and take pictures with characters and cast members cheering you on throughout the race! My husband and I have run at least one race a year since we have met including the Expedition Everest 5K, Princess 5K and 10K, several Star Wars 10Ks, and the Race to the Taste SpringTime Surprise 10K. We have also run the Castaway Cay 5K and have all of our medals displayed on a cute little hanger that says “Once Upon a Run”.
I also suggest to adventure to the Disney water parks, Disneyland, and California Adventure! Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are great places to slow down and take a break from the parks. They both offer a variety of water slides, tubes, and pools for all heights and age ranges depending on how adventurous your little one is! Disneyland and California Adventure offer twists on the Disney World experiences and snacks! They have several of the original rides that Magic Kingdom has removed, updated versions of the Florida rides, and an amazing redo of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror to Guardians of the Galaxy in their Marvel inspired land! My husband and I had a great time playing a game of what ride was better at what park!

  • Favorite Time to Travel I have so many favorite times to travel for different reasons! First of all, if you have never been during Christmas you are missing out. The decorations are absolutely stunning and the attention to detail is amazing. It is hard to imagine Disney World being even more magical, but it is! Everything from the parks to the resorts are decked out, and the amazing gingerbread creations in the Grand Floridian and EPCOT American Adventure are definitely a sight to see! Sure, it can be more crowded, but my family and I go with that in mind and take the opportunity to enjoy the little things, decorations, and special holiday snacks!
We also enjoy visiting during any of EPCOT’s festivals. Each country has special food and drink stands with offerings just during that time of year. At Christmas, they have the Festival of the Holidays, and in the spring, EPCOT is beautiful with Flower and Garden flowers and special topiaries all over that make for great pictures. Some of my all time favorite treats are during Food and Wine in the fall (and now part of the summer) and Festival of the Arts (after Christmas)!!

  • Favorite Quick Service Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café in the Magic Kingdom has always been a family favorite. There is plenty of room to sit and the menu offers an alternative to the standard burgers, fries, and chicken tenders. Fajitas, nachos, tacos, and a variety of bowls are some of our favorites. Bonus – If you sit outside for a late lunch or mid afternoon snack, it makes for a great spot to watch the afternoon parade go by!
Backlot Express in Hollywood Studies is also a favorite. It started as our go-to at Hollywood Studios years ago during Star Wars weekends. They would decorate the restaurant and serve Star Wars themed food. While the menu has changed over the years, it is still a great place to find burgers, barbeque, Cuban sandwiches, and a southwest salad. Backlot Express is also a hidden gem for specialty desserts and drinks! The Wookie cookie that they are currently serving is amazing!

  • Favorite Character Dining My family’s favorite character dining spot is Chef Mickeys for breakfast! Chef Mickey’s is located in the Contemporary. The meal is currently being served family style instead of a buffet where you start with a sampling of everything and then can ask for more of whatever you like! We actually prefer this because we don’t miss a beat as the characters come around! The characters at Chef Mickey’s are super interactive and frequently come out and do little dances to different songs as they move about the dining room. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto are classics and some of our favorites, so it is perfect for us!

  • Favorite Spot to Capture a Magical Photo We are a Star Wars loving family, so we love to take advantage of all of the great spots in Galaxy’s Edge! My son has especially taken a liking to the Porgs! Did you know that if you take your picture in front of the Millennium Falcon, you can ask that a Porg be put in your picture? There are also several other magical spots with Grogu (baby Yoda), and in the tunnel across from the milk stand, a PhotoPass photographer takes amazing pictures with lightsabers that they provide as a prop!
